What did you learn in school today? NOTHING
Do you have any homework? I DON'T KNOW
I know that students come home and want to be done with school. Many students drop their backpack at the door and forget about it until they leave in the morning. Unfortunately, it is easy to fall behind and hard to catch back up. Here are a few homework notes and guidelines for surviving 5th grade:
Do you have any homework? I DON'T KNOW
I know that students come home and want to be done with school. Many students drop their backpack at the door and forget about it until they leave in the morning. Unfortunately, it is easy to fall behind and hard to catch back up. Here are a few homework notes and guidelines for surviving 5th grade:
- Students generally have about 45 minutes of homework each night (Monday-Thursday).
- Most nights there will be a math assignment to finish.
- Each week students will have new reading stories and a new list of spelling words to study.
- In addition, students should read for 20 minutes each night.
- Anything being collected (meaning homework that needs to be finished) will be be noted with an *asterisk* or a star. Homework assigned today will be due the following day, unless otherwise noted.
- Students have limited work time in class. Anything that is not completed in class needs to be finished at home for "homework." Homework IS unfinished work, it isn't separate.
- I encourage students to have a few phone numbers of other classmates so last minute questions can be answered quickly.
- Students should be fluent with basic multiplication facts. If your child does not have quick recall he/she should study each night for mastery.
- Please check your child's backpack regularly for notes coming home from school.
- For daily homework assignments click on the HOMEWORK tab at the top of this page, they should also be written in your child's planner.
